Ahead of its National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has inaugurated 119-member National Convention Organising Committee.
The 114-member committee has Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri as Chairman, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as Deputy Chairman and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah as Secretary with a charge on all leaders, critical stakeholders and members to continue to work together for success of the Party.
In their separate remarks, the party’s National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, and Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed warned detractors and those demarketing the PDP and its operations, saying the party will no longer tolerate inciting comments.
The PDP thanked Nigerians for standing firm with it as it promised to rescue the party from the grip of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The inauguration came hours after eminent PDP leaders and concerned stakeholders loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike after their night meeting warned that any upcoming national convention will be deemed invalid if their specified conditions for inclusivity and fairness are not met. These include urgent conduct of fresh congresses in Ekiti, Ebonyi and Anambra States, along with that of South-East Zone and recognition of valid South-South Congress held in Cross River State, in adherence to existing court judgements
The Pro-Wike group endorsed recommendations of the PDP Zoning Committee adopted by National Executive Committee to maintain status quo but it firmly opposed any form of micro-zoning, arguing it could threaten party peace and stability but demanded that the National Chairmanship position remain in North-Central zone, consistent with 2021 convention’s zoning formula.
