Israeli forces have announced the killing of senior Hamas commander Raad Saad Al-Issa, who is alleged to have played a pivotal role in orchestrating the deadly October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The operation took place during an airstrike targeting a Hamas compound in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to a statement released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Al-Issa was a high-ranking figure in the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. He was reportedly instrumental in planning and executing the unprecedented cross-border assault that left over 1,200 Israelis dead and dozens taken hostage, triggering Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
“Raad Saad Al-Issa was a central operative in Hamas’ terror infrastructure and was directly involved in planning the October 7 massacre,” the IDF stated. “His elimination is a significant blow to Hamas’ command structure.”
The targeted strike reportedly hit a command center in Rafah, where Israeli intelligence said Al-Issa and other militants were coordinating attacks against Israeli troops. Footage released by the IDF showed aerial surveillance of the compound moments before it was struck.
Hamas has yet to officially confirm Al-Issa’s death, but local media in Gaza reported multiple casualties following intense Israeli bombardments in the area overnight.
The killing comes amid renewed clashes and heightened military activity in Gaza, particularly in Rafah, which Israel has described as a strategic stronghold for remaining Hamas leadership.
The October 7 attack, widely regarded as one of the deadliest in Israeli history, led to a protracted war that has left tens of thousands dead, displaced millions, and drawn international concern over humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
While Israel has faced growing calls for a ceasefire, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has maintained that military operations will continue until all hostages are freed and Hamas is dismantled.
Al-Issa’s death marks another chapter in the ongoing conflict that shows little sign of abating, with both sides continuing to suffer losses amid a deepening humanitarian crisis.
