The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today convened its 99th meeting in Abuja, issuing a strongly worded communique in which it condemned the current state of governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement presented by the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, the PDP NEC expressed grave concern over what it described as the “sorry and melancholic” state of the nation. The Committee decried the deepening insecurity, economic hardship, and pervasive corruption allegedly characterizing the Tinubu administration.

NEC highlighted the alarming rise in terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on communities across the country, attributing the deteriorating security situation to what it called the President’s “apparent negligence and abdication” of constitutional responsibilities.

On the economic front, the Committee blamed “ill-advised and ill-implemented policies” including fuel price hikes, increased electricity tariffs, and a slew of new taxes for escalating poverty, job losses, business closures, and general public misery. NEC further accused the government of fostering corruption, policy inconsistency, and mismanagement that have led to investor distrust and infrastructural decay.

The PDP reiterated its call for the immediate reversal of what it called “anti-people policies” and urged the government to take practical measures to address the nation’s security and economic crises.

NEC also raised alarms over an alleged plot by the APC to transform Nigeria into a one-party state through intimidation and suppression of opposition voices. It described such efforts as “desperate attempts” driven by fears of electoral defeat in 2027.

Despite the challenges, the PDP affirmed its unity and resolve, declaring its commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of Nigeria’s multiparty political structure.

As part of its internal restructuring, NEC ratified the composition of two key committees ahead of its forthcoming National Convention scheduled for Thursday, August 28 to Saturday, August 30, 2025. The Zoning Committee will be chaired by Governor Douye Diri, with Governors Dauda Lawal and Caleb Mutfwang serving as Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively. The National Convention Committee will be chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary.

Additionally, the NEC received the resolution from the South East Zonal Executive concerning the Party’s National Secretary and resolved to address the matter at its next meeting slated for Monday, June 30, 2025.

Concluding the communique, the PDP NEC reassured Nigerians of the party’s strength, unity, and readiness to lead the nation out of what it described as the “vicious grip” of the ruling APC.
