The Federal Government has announced plans to construct affordable and durable smart houses using bamboo for low and medium-income earners across Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, during a briefing in Abuja.
Mrs. Asanye explained that the initiative is part of the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable development through the use of local materials and innovative technologies. She noted that bamboo offers a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and durable solution to Nigeria’s housing challenges.
“The use of bamboo for housing construction will not only reduce building costs but also promote environmental sustainability and create job opportunities in bamboo cultivation and processing,” she said.
The project is expected to be rolled out in phases, targeting urban and rural areas in need of low-cost housing solutions.
More details on the implementation timeline and pilot locations are expected in the coming weeks.
